Use the best china

6 November 2009 6 Comments Tags: ,

coffeecupIn the morning rush to get out the door on time with two young children and facing a potential traffic problem on Sheikh Zayed Road, I still get through a decent breakfast, but rarely indulge in a leisurely coffee at home.

That all changed this past week.

I woke up one morning with an absolute craving for a good, strong espresso.  To enhance the espresso experience,  I decided to forego my usual mug, took out the proper espresso cup, saucer, and matching sugar bowl.  I love how the house fills with the distinctively rich aroma from the mocca caffettiera, or stove top espresso maker.

When the children came hurtling down the stairs for breakfast and saw the espresso set on the dining table, they stopped dead in their tracks, and asked if we had a guest for breakfast.

They had reason to- it is only when we have guests that the espresso sets make an appearance.  I’m sure the same goes for many households and their best china dinnerware.  It only comes out on special occasions.

It occurred to me that we tend to treat guests to the best we have, and often treat ourselves almost like unworthy second-class citizens.

I decided there and then that I will treat myself as my own personal VIP guest for the next seven days and see how that re-aligns my universe.

I will use  delicate espresso cups.  Eat from pretty dishes.  Dress as though each day is a special occasion. Interact with my family as though we are all invited VIP guests.

What if we didn’t save the best for last, but enjoyed it first?

What if we valued ourselves the way we value those we admire?

What if we didn’t wait until someday when everything is perfect to enjoy our best china?

Best China just like Sunday best clothes are meant for special occasions. Well they should, but then everything we do should be a special occasion. I suppose it is part of the me time syndrome. I say, enjoy the best china and the best clothes and whatever else, we all worked hard to earn them

Such an outstanding idea. When we feel prosperous we attact more prosperity.

I’ve also been doing the fine china thing in my home when drinking coffee. It makes me feel special. In addition I dress up more when I head out for daily errands. It makes a difference. Treat yourself how you want to live. See the finest, feel the opulence in these things, and watch prosperity manifest in your life.

This is wonderful. Both the writing and the idea of treating yourself like an honored guest in your own home.

I found your blog because you responded to something I “tweeted” about NaNoWriMo. I will be returning to it because you are a gifted writer and because you seem like a kindred spirit. Peace be with you.

    What a thought!

Why shouldn’t we give ourselves VIP treatment, especially if it\ll give us a few more extra special moments in our day-to-day lives?!
