Football: team tango

I watched my son at a few of his football training sessions.  I watched as the coach took them through the skills, of moving the ball smoothly down the field in a carefully timed sequences.  I watched week after week as this group of kids went from a mob chasing a ball, blindly running to converge on whoever happened to have the ball, to a team where each player kept and played his position, ball possession no longer the overriding objective.

The first pediatrician I consulted explained to me what a newborn’s only language is crying.  “Don’t assume something is wrong”, he said comfortingly. “She may just be trying to communicate with you, but hasn’t got any words yet”.  Right.  No words, I thought to myself, but the tone is crystal clear – and it is not the kind of tone I would dare impose on fellow diners anywhere.

I’m a convert.  I went from a fun (read: wired)  night owl to a zen-like (read: boring) early bird.  I’m loving it.
Everyone has heard of Ben Franklin’s,  “Early to bed, early to rise, makes you wealthy, healthy and wise”.  I’m a true believer -  except for the wise bit – it’s going to take a bit more than going to bed early to develop extra wisdom.  Actually, I’m not so sure about the wealthy bit either, unless somebody would pay me to shut up and go to sleep.
