@Roger packaging and selling ... entire industries built upon the very unwillingness to "dress it up". There's always hope that substance stays and b.s. walks. I should think that today's ready accessibility to the world podium by everyone means there's definitely hope ....

Thanks for stopping by!

I think spin has clouded the distinction between real ability/talent and mediocrity. "Bullshit baffles brains" is an increasingly relevant saying. Often the most brilliant lack the ability or the will to dress their work up to be anything more than it is (therefore not always comprehensible) leaving the field open to those who have the 'gift of the gab" and sometimes fewer scruples.....

@Oussama, perhaps we were stuck in the same traffic queue as well ... :) I think it would be difficult to find a quantitative metric for measuring talent, although the research seems to suggest that about 10 years of "deliberate practice" is what it takes to become an expert in any field. Yup, any, with or without talent.

If I had known earlier, I could have planned to give Lady Gaga a run for her money ...

Thanks for your thoughtful input as always!

I heard the same interview while driving. Practise makes perfect, most of the time anyway. However, it takes a certain amount of talent in addition to hard work to ensure success. How do you quantify the amount of talent a person has or how much talent is needed to be successful is the interesting part of the equation

@Ekta, so so so true. Mediocrity, or using its technical term 'meh', is the hidden killer of our times.

The most successful people are those who are extremely talented and work really hard. In my opinion, if you can't do both, pick one and focus. Being semi-talented and working hard 50% of the time is probably the worst way to go.
